KARUNA

My brother has a penchant for collecting statues of Budha and he's got a whole lot of them but he's very picky in selecting one! For him, it's all about Budha's face and he picks only the one that emanates calm, peace. No wonder, buying Budha with him was quite an enlightening experience for me. But it's today I realized that his hunting for the right face, had invariably instilled in me, inhibition & apprehension to paint 'The Supreme Enlightened Being's Face' as there was no way I could get it right in my first attempt or for that matter even in the subsequent ones!

On the other hand, this was a great chance for me to show my love for Budha on His Big Day (Budh Purnima) so with a prayer in my heart, I set out at the most difficult task of painting the simplest face of them all! I had great doubts of being able to pull off this one but here it is, my humble attempt at painting Shakyamuni, the Budha. I’ve titled it - KARUNA!

For Buddha, the path to happiness starts from developing compassion.
“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion."
And therein lies the secret to Budha's eternal smile.
