Night Shadows

With my back towards the window
I lie wide awake in the bed
My gaze fixed at the wall
Waiting for the night to turn young
For it's then
The Moon in its full splendor
Waltz its way through the thick foliage
Glides through the icy cold glass
Sweeps across the floor
To moon-walk on the bare wall
Night after night
It pirouettes beautiful patterns
On the taut, cold, plastered stretch.

Tonight it’s pitch dark
Just the way I like
For once even the footlight is at rest
An occasional slash
The glaring headlights
Slice through the leafy-pattern
And speed away
Into the sleepless night
Bolt of light
Flash across the sky
The clouds rumble and roar
One long thundering downpour
I tip-toe to the window
To look at the street below
A sheet of shining glass
Street-lights dance upside-down
There's a magic about the wet-wintry night
On the opposite wall
The Moon gets bold
Enticing with its hypnotic moves.
