मनमर्ज़ी

तन्हा रात में जागती आँखों की
आओ सुनाऊँ तुम्हें कहानी
Let me narrate to you story of
Eyes that stay awake during the lonely nights

यूँ तो और ग़म नहीं दुनिया में,
बस सीने में इक दिल है बला-ए-आसमानी
It's not the world that has woes
But the heart that host heavenly griefs

मंसूबा है दिल का ख़ुशी लुटाना
ग़मे-पिन्हाँ की भी करनी है निगरानी
The heart desires to spread happiness
Yet keep it's own grief under wraps

शोले धधकते हैं दिल में
आग से सींचती है उन्हें ज़िंदगानी
Embers burn in the heart
Irrigated by life's infernos (flames of desires/aspirations)

शादकामों को कैसे रास आए मगर
दिले-गमगीं की शादमानी
Ironical but it's the successful people who are most averse to
Happiness of grieving hearts

तंगना-ए-दिल को मलूल कहाँ
बहर-ए-हस्ती भी है बेकरानी
Sadness knows no limit
So are life's experiences — vast & endless like a sea

मासूमियत के परदे पीछे
हो गयी मेरी भी नज़र सयानी
Ways of the world have taught
My innocence to grow up

दिल-ए-निगरखाने का हाल सुनो
दिन में है सूरजमुखी, शाम ढले रात की रानी
Like an artist's gallery, my heart is an amalgamation of myriad emotions
Like a Sunflower, during the day (it yearns for Sun's love & light) but during the night, it becomes a night jasmine(spreading its own fragrance)

प्यार से माँगो तो जान है हाज़िर
ख़ल्क़ के आगे है अंदाज़ तुर्कमानी
I can lay my life for people i love
But adorn cloak of a rebel, when I face the world

आदाब-ए-बंदगी की तौफ़ीक रखती हूँ
मर्ज़ी की अपनी हुक्मरानी...
I believe in serving humanity
But me, myself — am a servant only to my freewill...

ग़मे-पिन्हाँ : छिपा हुआ दुःख
शादकाम : प्रसन्नचित, कामयाब
शादमानी : खुशी
तंगना-ए-दिल : दुखी ह्रदय
मलूल : सीमा
बहर-ए-हस्ती : ज़िन्दगी का समन्दर
बेकरानी : जिसका किनारा न हो
निगारखाना : चित्रालय
ख़ल्क़ : दुनिया
तुर्कमानी : विद्रोही
आदाबे-बंदगी : सेवाभाव
तौफ़ीक : काबिलियत
हुक्मरानी : हुकूमत करना
